#0517 is a bypass wrap whose flattened, hammered ends taper and overlap like a pair of blades passing each other at the front.

The hammering leaves the flattened ends faceted and uneven, each plane angled a little differently, like two blades that don't quite match.

The bypass lets the band give slightly, so it eases on and off. Over years of wear the blade tips lose their sharpest facets and the flat planes turn duller and softer.
